If you want to be full, start starving.
“Blessed are thye which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” – Matthew 5:6
There’s two kinds of people, people that can’t finish a plate of food and people that follow up their meal with “are you gonna’ finish that?” Unfortunately I fall with the latter, I’m always hungry. Anyway, we all have different tolerances but on one thing we can all agree, ti have a full stomach, you’ve gotta’ eat something right?
wrong; almost right but wrong.
To be full, you’ve got to eat the right thing. It’s the same logic the small child in you hated when mom said no ice cream for breakfast. Why? Sure it will give you that sugar rush for an hour or two but then it fades. That energy it gave you was superficial; it doesn’t last. Our spirit works the same way.
It’s tempting to have that so called ‘ice cream’ for breakfast; waking up to only reach for our phones before our bibles. That list of notifications will make you feel valued for a moment, sure but nothing can compare to the value Abba Father has lready spoken over you.
That ‘ice cream’ may seem to fill your spirit but it doesn’t. The truth of the matter is partaking in that sweet sprinkled sugary temptation will only send your spiritual man into a lpace of weakness and malnourishment.
Anyone who has ever dieted knows the struggles that coe with denying your cravings. The some is to be said about our flesh and it’s war our spirit. The Bible speaks of this in Luke 9:23-24. Inorder to follow christ we need to deny ourself, pick up our cross daily and follow Him.
Our Spirit becomes malnourished when we neglect to feed it. However, look at it this way, our life is a free for all buffet of many fills, some temporary, some eternal. Everyday we are fueling our spirit or our flesh.
You can eat and eat, binging all your flesh’s cravings but to be full of sin, ‘full’ of the lusts of this flesh and you will still be hungry. The truth is, to be full of the flesh is to be painfully empty. It is only when we partake in Christ’s sufferings, love, and convictions and regularly taste of the goodness of His words and truth that we can truly be full.
It has been said that there are many books that can inform you but only the Bible can transform you. The Bible has a beautiful way of bringing out the best and worst of us, chipping away the worst and amplifying the best.
To be full of the spirit you must start starving your flesh.
